MAMARONECK VS. CLARKSTOWN NORTH AT TORNE VALLEY

Final: Mamaroneck 21, Clarkstown North 14

What a finish, folks. Chris Ford catches a 15-yard touchdown from Andrew Benkwitt with six seconds left in regulation off a fake, 32-yard field-goal attempt. For the second week in a row, some trick plays pay off in the form of big wins. Gotta love it.

Update 4: We’ve got a good one at Torne Valley. A 1-yard run by Jelani Turner with 4:34 left ties it at 14-14.

Update 3: The score remains 14-7 after three.

Update 2: It’s 14-7 Tigers at the half. North’s Jelani Turner scored on a 14-yard run with 6:38 left. Harold added a note that Griffin’s TDs came the first two times he touched the ball tonight. Talk about a magic touch.

Update 1: Harold Gutmann just can’t get enough of the action. Gutter is now at Torne Valley where the Mamaroneck Tigers sure look like they’re determined to snap a three-game losing streak in the early going. The Tigers lead 14-0 after one quarter. Julian Griffin has scored both TDs — on a 65-yard punt return and 73-yard run.

YONKERS AT SAUNDERS

Final: Saunders 30, Yonkers 26

BYRAM HILLS AT RYE

Final: Rye 21, Byram Hills 7

The Garnets have now won 53 straight vs. Section 1 teams and improve to 6-0. Byram falls to 5-1.

Update 6: We just had a potentially game-deciding sequence at Nugent Stadium. Here’s what happened. After a Rye punt, Byram fumbled inside its own 15. On the very next play, Connor Eck connected with Donald Keough for a 14-yard TD. Game, set, match? With Rye’s defense, most likely. The Garnets lead 21-7 with 7:51 left in regulation.

Update 5: There’s one quarter to go and the Bobcats are still very much in it, trailing 14-7 after three.

Update 4: We’ve got a good one at Nugent Stadium, gang. It’s 14-7 Rye at the half. I recall saying something to the effect this week on “VC Live”:http://lohud.com.vc that if Byram fins itself in a defensive game and maybe down only 14-7 at the half, things could be very interesting in the second half. “So stay tuned”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081009/MOGULUS0101/310090023 — literally.

Update 3: Back come the Garnets. It’s now 14-7 Rye with 4:31 to go in the half. Kyle Ramlaho scored on a 3-yard run.

Update 3: The Bobcats have tied it at 7-7 as Jonathan Ross hauls in a 20-yard touchdown pass from Erik Britz with 10:37 left in the second quarter.

Update 2: After one, it’s Rye 7, Byram 0.

Update 1: The hard-working and talented Kevin Devaney Jr. is back at it for our second battle of 5-0 teams this weekend. He just checked in with his first score report. The host Garnets, who have won 52 straight vs. Section 1 teams, have jumped in front 7-0 on a 5-yard TD run by Luke O’Malley. KD added an interesting note in his text message. This is Luke’s first game of the season after suffering a hamstring injury in the preseason. And don’t forget, gang, you can catch the game right here, right now. Our live video feed is available “here.”:http://www.lohud.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081009/MOGULUS0101/310090023

Update 1: Tony Pinciaro reports North Rockland leads 6-0 after the first quarter on a Sal Sulla’s 36-yard run.

CROTON-HARMON AT HALDANE

Update 3: We’ve played three — and it’s still 14-6, Tigers.

Update 2: Croton leads 14-6 at the half. With about two minutes left in the quarter, Nick Mainero and Joe Tralli hooked up again, this time on a 28-yard TD pass. Dorien added the PAT.

Update 1: Our columnist extraordinaire Rick Carpiniello has touched down in Cold Spring after enjoying a nice drive in which he was able to take in some spectacular views of the fall foliage. Croton-Harmon leads 7-6 after one quarter. On the first possession of the game, Haldane went 66 yards and scored on a 20-yard run by Rafael Famigetti. The kick failed. Two plays later, Nick Mainiero threw a 55-yard TD pass to Joe Tralli. Tyler Dorien kicked the extra point.

The field was dedicated and named in honor of former Haldane coach Larry Brigati, who was in attendance and unaware that the ceremony would take place.

RYE NECK AT TUCKAHOE

Final: Rye Neck 28, Tuckahoe 20

Update 5: Rye Neck leads 21-20 with 4:27 left. Jack Newton scored again, this time on a 17-yard run. Sounds like an unbelievable game.

Update 4: Tuckahoe is leading 20-14 with 8:40 left in the game. Rye Neck’s Jack Newton had a 54-yard TD run and a 46-yard TD reception.

Update 3: Tuckahoe is still up 20-0. End of 3.

Update 1: From Alex Myers. Tuckahoe is leading 7-0 after the first quarter. Touchdown scored by Jarrett Sommer on a 3-yard run.

MOUNT VERNON AT NEW ROCHELLE

Final: New Rochelle 14, Mount Vernon 6

The Huguenots survive the scare and get their fifth straight win. Mount Vernon has lost five in a row.

Update 4: New Ro scores on a 23-yard TD pass from McGhee to Lou DiRienzo with 1:11 to play. The Huguenots appear to have averted what would have been a MAJOR upset. They now lead 14-6 with time winding down.

Update 3: How about this one, gang. New Ro is clinging to a 7-6 fourth-quarter lead. Robert Pope just caught a 9-yard TD pass from Stephon Ramsey from with 11:23 to play. The Knights then went for the 2-point conversion but fumbled the snap on the exchange as fumbles continue to be the theme of this one.

Update 2: It’s 7-0 at the half. JT reports that there have been three turnovers — with New Ro fumbling twice and MV once. MV fumbled at the New Ro 18 on a big third-and-one.

Update 2: Ramapo leads 14-6 at the half. The Gryphons’ second TD came on a 39-yard pass from Mike Abelard to Kevin Malivert. South’s score was off a 36-yard halfback option pass that Joe Depool completed to Michael Walrond.
