Update 4: Stepinac holds on to win, 21-14. The Crusaders, who are the defending AA champs, advanced to Saturday’s championship, where they will meet No. 2 Holy Trinity at 1 p.m. at Mitchel Athletic Complex.
The game was somewhat similar to the one played by Fordham and Stepinac on Oct. 4. The Crusaders jumped ahead 13-0 in that one, but the Rams came back to tie it 13-13 in the fourth quarter. Collins, again, threw the winning TD pass, just like he did today.
Update 3: On the last play of the third quarter, Stepinac has taken the lead. It was Boulhousa again, who hauled in a 65-yard TD pass from QB Joe Collins. The Crusaders made the kick, and now lead 21-14 heading into the final quarter of play.
Update 2: The score is, indeed, tied 14-14 at the half. Both teams traded scores in an exciting second quarter.
First, Stepinac, the No. 1 seed, tied the score 7-7 when Blake Rzemieniewski connected with Brian Boulhousa on a 45-yard touchdown on a reverse pass.
Fordham Prep, the No. 4 seed, went back ahead 14-7 when Grant, wasting no time, returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.
The action continued later in the half when Stepinac’s Caleb Gilligan-Evans tied the score on a 32-yard run.
Looks like it should be an interesting second half. A spot in Saturday’s AA championship game is on the line. The winner will meet No. 2 Holy Trinity at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale at 1 p.m.
Update 1: Harold Gutmann is at Stepinac, where Fordham Prep struck first, scoring on a 2-yard run by Bruce Grant to take a 7-0 lead after one quarter.
The score is now 14-14 late in the second quarter. Details to follow…
