Boys soccer: Edgemont is officially the B team to beat

October
6

I was in Bronxville today for a game that was significant because of its symbolism. Edgemont vs Bronxville wasn’t the best game in Class B. Bronxville was only .500 coming in. It’s hardly the team that won a Class state championship last year.

Edgemont will encounter tougher opponents. But it won’t find one more important.

The Broncos have knocked Edgemont out of the playoffs in each of the last three years. Not only knocked them out but shut them out. And, until unseated, they are still the champs. Edgemont needed this win for catharsis as much as anything.

Thanks to a staunch defense and Justin Orden, they got it, 2-0.

tjndc5-5rardymnmzai14zrg0k_layoutIt’s just the latest accomplishment in Edgemont’s season. The Panthers are 9-1-1 with a win over White Plains and a tie with New Ro. Both are Class AA powers. They’ve shut out all five league opponents they’ve faced. Now this.

They were tentative in the first half. Afterward they said they were a little scared of Bronxville, despite that team’s diminished status. At halftime they got a pep talk about being the better team and picked up their play.

Justin Orden scored twice in an 11-minute span. Orden has 22 goals, best in the area. He’s already surpassed his career high of 21 from last year.

Ben Gottesdiener made 10 saves for the shutout. Bronxville counterpart Jack Connors, an 8th grader, had seven. He played very well in the first half.

I also thought Bronxville defender Jack Dennen made some good aggressive plays.

    Hey Jake,
Seems that Edgemont is very strong and a state title contender. In AA Scarsdale is listed as having lost to Yonkers. Yet there record is 10-0-1. Can you correct that for me.Who is your choice for AA in the lower Hudson Valley.

  2. scarsdale

On lohud, for some reason the scarsdale varsity a schedule and the scarsdale varsity b schedule are combined. The varsity b team lost to yonkers, and the varsity a’s record is in fact 10-0-1.

How does the coach at Edgemont allow 7 goals against a team like Tuckahoe – 5 alone for Orden ? I would like my kid to get in the game and play when the game is obviously won.
