Tappan Zee swimming

October
6

What’s up bloggers? Finally I made my way to my first swim meet of the year and boy was it a doozy.

Tappan Zee defeated Suffern 86-84 at South Orangetown Middle School. The same facility which will be the home of the Rockland County Championships coming up on Oct. 24.

This was the first time in over 30 years that Tappan Zee beat Suffern in a dual meet.

This meet was exciting from start to finish.

It came down to the final relay and it was a very interesting gamble that coach Ray Gaffney took by splitting up his top 400-yard relay. It paid off and I like the risk even though if you do the math; with the Dutchies down eight going into the 400 free relay he knows that his girls need to go 1-2 if they’re to win. Which is what happened.

I have to give the Mounties a lot of credit. They swam their tail off and did everything necessary to win.

The County championships should be very interesting.
