The East Ramapo girls swim team couldn’t wait to celebrate its first win in three seasons, a 95-78 victory over Yonkers Tuesday at Rockland Community College.
It was also Fran Kaufman’s first win in her three years as their coach.
The kids threw her in the pool,” assistant coach Allan Warsaw said. “They actually threw her in too soon. You’re supposed to wait until the meet is officially over, but they threw her in anyway.”
Kaufman enjoyed, and appreciated, the dunking.
“It was great,” she said. “It was a long time coming. And this year, being in a division with a lot of top Rockland schools, has been tough. So this was very nice and I’m very happy.
“I feel great, but for my kids who have been on the team a long time, being 0 for 3 seasons is very tough. They’ve been working very hard, and I’m very happy for them.”
Charlotte Collazo won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle events, and contributed to the first-place 200 free relay (along with Jackie Rose, Marie Guerrero and Sabrina Fincher). Veronica Canada won the 100 butterfly and took first place in diving. Elya Shavrova won the 200 IM.

Congrats to our East Ramapo Girls Swimming & Diving Team!
It’s a tough, uphill battle, competing against schools who have year round access to in-house swimming pools, and the lack of a hearty school district budget to support your valiant efforts.
Keep up the great work!
