Girls soccer: Graziano scores four in rout

It was hard to believe, watching Stephanie Graziano today, that she’s not traditionally a scorer for Ursuline. The way she knifed through the defense, the way she made long runs down the sideline, she seemed as determined to find the net as anyone.

The center middie had a hat trick today against Edgemont — in eight minutes! She tacked on another goal, her fourth, 13 minutes later. Ursuline was up 5-0 at halftime, and won 6-1.

Graziano had just five goals on the season. That’s in 14 games. She nearly doubled that today.

She looked like a natural. She weaved around defenders like they were orange cones. She glided down the field effortlessly. Her second goal was a pinpoint job under the crossbar that demonstrated how accurate her kicks are.

She could be a major scorer for any team. Instead she’s mostly the distributor on Ursuline. Kerry Ann O’Connor does most of the scoring. She had a goal today too.

Edgemont played better in the second half, although by that time Ursuline’s backups were in and some of the starters were playing out of position. Coach Malcolm Brown said he wanted to give some of the non-scorers a chance to play up front in the second half.

At 11-3-1, Ursuline should be one of the top seeds in the upcoming playoffs. Edgemont is 5-7-2.

Who decides what games get covered???? In Rockland we had North Rockland/Nanuet in the county championship, with no coverage!! It was one of the best games of the year with the two best players in Rockland facing off and Nanuet (the big underdog) coming up with the big win on penalty kicks. No matter who came out the winner this was a great game and the girls deserved to have some coverage.

  2. fan

The Scarsdale vs. Ursuline should have been covered last week and the game in Rockland today.

  3. Hey

aren’t you supposed to cover soccer and other sports on this blog? Did you know Nanuet beat North Rockland in a girls county championship game? Why wouldn’t you cover that kind of game on this blog?

  4. another Hey

Big Eye Roll, why would they cover the Rockland girls county championship soccer game?? A volley ball game was on.

  5. Hmmm

Stop complaining about worthless Rockland County. Briarcliff is the two-time defending state champions and haven’t seen one story this season. Do you guys remember where Briarcliff is?

  6. Soccer Fan

I agree with Hmmm. Rye played Briarcliff the other day – both reining state champs – both undefeated – and it went by unnoticed. That should have been billed as the game of the year.

    hey Jake,
Can you post the Girl’s soccer seedings and playoff schedule for Saturday? thank you.
Nice job Nyack Girl’s soccer Team defense allowing just one goal in their last 4 games of the season – shutting out Nanuet,Tappan Zee,and South.

  8. fan

JJ-EF, Rye, Briarcliff, and North Salem should all repeat.

  9. Hmmm

I think Somers has a shot to dethrone Rye, if anyone. They beat Briarcliff the other day.

I agree, Where are all the write ups on The County Soccer games. Nanuet Beat North Rockland and Clarkstown North Beat Tapanzee.. Rye, Branrcliff?/ I just Read the reviews for the Bergen Record and they are very detailed. every team , every name in the whole county and this was for the whole season..soccer is hugh
The Sectionals have some great games this Sat. I hope they will be covered well..

  11. soccer fan

I know JJEF is rated #1 in the state but North Rockland has enough talent to give them a great game.

    Hmmm

Your remark about Rockland county being worthless was uncalled for, you apparently have no class!

  13. fan

It would not surprise me if North Rockland lost to JJ-CR in the quarters.

  14. Gettysburg

Did Suffern tie or beat NR during the season? JJEF beat Suffern 5-0 yesterday, in the first half. Not sure if NR will make it to the finals. JJCR has some very good talent and can trip them up.

Read the comments after the 10/29 Cross country blog. I don’t know if anyone at the Journal News reads these comments or not. They need a wake up call regarding the lack of coverage. Write to the editor and make your displeasure known.

  16. soccer fan

I think it will be a very good game between NR and JJCR but in the end NR has to much talent. My prediction 2-1 NR on top.
