Cross country: North Rockland sweeps county meet

October
29

No one at Bear Mountain today could remember when, if ever, North Rockland won both the boys and girls cross country Rockland championships. The way they cruised to victory today you’d think they do it every year.

Here are the boys standings:
1. North Rockland 21
2. Suffern 47
3. Pearl River 88

And the girls:
1. North Rockland 37
2. Pearl River 63
3. Tappan Zee 76

tjndc5-5rmkkwwbyx311k0m09pg_layoutNick Hughes was the boys champion with a 15:19.46. He’d finished second behind Mike Hickey each of the last two years.

Five other Red Raiders placed in the top eight. James Naglieri was second with a 15:44.38. Suffern’s Tyler Frigge was third at 15:51.11.

No one but Suffern and North Rockland placed in the top 10 in boys.tjndc5-5rmkl74ixigpjeee9pg_layout

Nanuet’s Megan Young took the girls championship with a 17:38.04. The freshman finished third last year.

Jessica Tobin of Clarkstown South was second with a 18:11.64.

Despite those efforts, the Nanuet and South girls teams finished just fifth and sixth.

Alexis Hatcher (18:25.28) led the victorious Red Raider girls.

Next up is sectionals next Saturday.

soccer articles? predictions? cross country is not a readers top priority these days let me tell you. I havent seen a boys soccer article in over a week!

  2. Andrea

Agreed. Very little soccer coverage this year. Sedds are out and no predictions? Love Cross Country, but the lack of soccer coverage is so disappointing. Write to the editor like I did.

  3. SoccerFan

Great to see Cross country be recognized. They get very little coverage. But also a third complaint on the very disappointing lack of soccer coverage. One blog covers football and this blog is the sole source of info for ALL OTHER SPORTS. Do as I did and send a message by canceling subscription to paper.

WHere are the scores from today!? they arent even on that Highschool Sports data base! Jake, cant you post them as they come in, its playoff time, a lack of coverage isnt needed right now

  5. Agrees with Guest

Ossining beat Yorktown 3-2 in boys soccer.

  6. More Boys Soccer Scores

The Poughkeepsie Journal’s Varsity Club blog does a little better reporting real-time scores. Of course, they only cover Dutchess teams.

    Arlington 5 – Clarkstown South 0
    New Rochelle 4 – Ketcham 2
John Jay EF 0 – White Plains 0, JJ wins on PKs

    Anyone know any other scores/results?
Rye won today 4-0 over Yonkers.
If they won’t cover the games let’s all just report here and cover them ourselves

  8. Mahopac Suffern?

Anyone have the Mahopac Suffern boys soccer result? It wasn’t in
    today’s paper.

  9. brackets?

Kevin and Josh do such a great job with the boys AND girls basketball seedings – posting playoff brackets, keeping them updated, blogging predictions – why can’t this happen at the JN for soccer?

  10. Mahopac Suffern?

My bad. The score was in the paper. Just not in a box score or a game summary.

My guess is that it is not Kevin and Josh’s fault but rather the Journal News’s fault. Pok Journal and Newday do a much better job covering their area’s high schools’sports.

    WHERES THE SOCCER!?

Suffern beat mahopac on an incredible goal by christian dominguez and great team defense in the second half.

  12. Suffern

Journal news is a terrible paper with NO coverage. If your going to put the score in the paper, make sure it is right. Suffern beat mahopac 1-0. They had it in the paper as 2-1 mahopac victory. Just awful.

Jake there have been 2 rounds of playoffs and not one post on the blog. No predictions, no analysis anything. The football blog gets full analysis of every single game including game balls, players and coaches of hte week, etc. Soccer literally gets an article that u had to write for the paper, copy and pasted into this blog once a week at most. How long could it take to interact wiht your readers a bit. even a short paragraph talking about a few first round upsets just to give us something to talk about. I write for a newspaper myself, and I know how long it takes to write these articles, and writing a short piece could take maybe 30 minutes at a max. Your making a lot of people very angry with this. We al know its hte journal news’ fault, but you still can do your part by posting every once in a while, especially during hte playoffs.

  14. Hmmm

Very poor soccer, volleyball, and field hockey coverage. Might as well just throw in the towel and just focus on football, which is basically all you do anyways.

Clearly the reporter sent to cover the Westchester County meet has no sense of the team issue in cross country. The Fox Lane – Greeley battle came down to a tie and was settled by the 6th runner. Great story ignored. Excellent race by the Lakeland/Panas girls not mentioned. Four of the top five Bronxville girls could have run in the Frosh race – also ignored. First county championship contested in Westchester in many years also not mentioned. Tremendous job by the Somers School District to stag the meet. Yes, The Journal is the absolute worst paper in the country for the coverage of cross country and track.

  16. Andrea

I am hoping the Hearst Corp. takes over this paper. Show your displeasure with your wallet.

agreed, the way to get out of an economic hardship isnt to provide minimal coverage, its really not that hard to write short blog posts about the games.

  18. your boy

This coverage is a joke. Nobody cares about what happens in cross country it is playoff time for boys soccer. That should be your focus now through the state finals and stop wasting your times with sports (cough) like cross country. Its soccer time

  19. SoccerFan

    your boy
Don’t disparage the cross country runners and fans. They work hard and for the people involved, they do care. That said, I fully agree with the remainder of your post. Nothing has been said about soccer playoffs in some very interesting contests.
The only posts in this thread are soccer related, in a cross country entry – doesn’t that tell you something about the lack of coverage – we couldn’t even find a soccer thread to post in.

  20. Soccer scores?

Anyone have a Scarsdale-New Rochelle boys soccer score? They were scheduled to play at 10 AM today.

  21. Greeley-Ossining

Greeley beat Ossining on PKs in boys soccer.

  22. your boy responder

thats why around here XC gets more shit done then soccer..
