Boys soccer: Championship game updates

November
7

Jake and I are up at Arlington High School. Here is your championship scoreboard:

Class C final
FINAL: Blind Brook 1, North Salem 0 – Lucasst McBride scored in the 47th minute of the game. Brian Span did not start because of a back injury. He played the final 21 minutes of the first half and was on to start the second half before leaving with 15:25 to play.

Class B final

FINAL: Byram Hills 4, Somers 0

Class AA final
Final:
Arlington 1, Greeley 0 — Arlington’s Rob Stevens scores on a deflection at the 3:37 mark of the second OT. His shot from outside the box hit a Greeley defender, changed direction slightly and scored.

Class B final
Final:
Rye Neck 3, Edgemont 1

Stay tuned for more…

UPDATE, 5:45 p.m.: Just heard from Jake. His phone service cut out before and I thought he had said it was 3-0, Rye Neck; the score has been corrected.

Will Edgemont bounce back??????? Where is their Phenom Stricker Orden?????

  2. berksquat

Does it really take two of you to cover the boys championships while no one is at the girls? I would venture to say that there are an equal number of fans for boys and girls soccer at this age. The bias is antiquated.

  3. guest 2

I think we need to write to the Journal News and ask to get more reporters for these games especially during the season.

  4. Seth

They used to have reporters for every sport. But they (as all newspapers) are hemmorhaging money. They have great sports editors who I’m sure are as frustrated as we all are. But that’s the business right now. People aren’t reading newspapers, and advertisers aren’t paying the kind of money they were in years past. So, the readers suffer.

  5. Joe

    Rye Neck 3-0 over Edgemont!!!!!!!!!

  6. jeez

once again, any update on the girls’ scores?

times are hard, but two reporters at one site, while no one is at the girls’ games? come on.

  7. Josh Thomson

jeez…All I know is that Briarcliff beat Bronxville 2-1. I will try to see if someone can start a new thread with girls scores. There is someone at their games.

  8. Dan K

YEA RYE NECK!!!! Back to back appearences in the sectional final, and we win this year. The final score was 3-1!! Good luck to the panthers in the regionals!!

  9. jeez

thanks – would appreciate the info! :)

  10. Josh Thomson

Eastchester and Rye girls tied and were named co-champs, but it’s No. 2 Eastchester that advanced on PKs.

  11. fan

Eastchester is a solid team, good luck in regionals

  12. Alyssa

    What about john jay?

  13. ee

    John-Jay won 1-0

  14. marc

Where can we find the regional brackets ?

  15. marc

Regional and statre brackets can be found at: http://www.nysphsaa.org/championships/fall09/bsoccer.asp

Blind Brook plays Rhinebeck.. GO TROJANS !!!!

  16. Jerome

    Rye Neck 3 Edgemont 1

Edgemont’s striker showed up, but if you watched their midfield and defense might as well have stayed home. Congrats to Rye Neck they are a complete team with a complete game. Left four guys to cover Edgemont’s striker who was left copmpletely alone up top. Rey Neck was more motivated, aggressive to the ball and played nice quick passes on the ground all game. All three goals scored by them were legitamate. Edgemonts player play the ball in the air rarely connecting passes on the ground. Edgemoint may have the super star, but Rye Neck had the team—-and the better team won. I against 11, I’ll take the 11 every time.

  17. Jerome

One more thing on Rye Neck Edgemont game. Edgmont students yelling obsenities at refs and yelling at their players to break the legs of Rye Necks was a disgrace—-just classless.

    ivanzinho is diirtyyyy

  19. girls?

FYI – Briarcliff is FOUR TIME Section 1 champions.

Good luck to all of the Section 1 teams in regionals.

  20. No One

To bad no one cares at all about soccer

  21. NS FAN

Another fine job by the journal news. No one blogging during the girls class c final. The total soccer coverage this year has been miserable.

Time to end your paid subscriptions to the paper. Maybe that will get them to understand that there are 1000’s of kids playing socccer !

  22. guest

Yeah, ending subscriptions isnt going to teach them anything. They’re just as frustrated as you are. They just dont have the personnel to cover sports the way they used to. Blame the rest of the citizens of the LoHud area for doing what you’re advocating. The fewer readers they have, the fewer HS sports events they cover. So go ahead. Cancel your subscription. You’ll teach them a hell of a lesson.

  23. nsfan

I am not sure who “they” are. My comments are addressed to the editors and management of LOHUD. I understand the line staff is doing what they can given the poor management decisions concerning resource allocation

So what method do you recomend for getting the point across ? LOHUD hasnt been listening to its readers and has ignored numerous online postings by multiple people.

The amount of resources dedicated to HS Soccer is a complete joke. There are 1000’s of families out there witha keen interest in HS soccer and LOHUD has short changed them

Last time I checked, the most effective way to get your point across as a consumer was to vote with your wallet. I am urgeing the soccer population to do so. Make the management of LOHUD sit up and take notice. Vote with your wallets until the proper level of resources are dedicated to HS soccer.

  24. guest 2

    nsfan,

    good point!!!!

  25. lohud soccer

The disappointment with the soccer coverage is the excessive amount of football coverage—whether it is the previews, the daily coverage or the game summaries. There is way too much football in relation to soccer and this has to be addressed. Given the amount of soccer players in the region, attendance at games and overall interest, the paper is missing a significant constituency that buys the paper to follow soccer and the games.

  26. ELi

Why is this kind of language from ( poop on my gooch November 8th, 2009 at 8:41 pm) allowed up on a blog?

Is this going to become another “backofthenet?

  27. girls?

How did the Section 1 boys do today?
