Keep checking back, more on the way.

Update: Mamaroneck was holding up on defense, but Erin Smith scored with 7:59 to go in the first half. Most of the runs made by the Tigers are coming undone outside of the cirle.

Update: Halftime, Greene 1, Mamaroneck 0

Update: We’ve got 15 minutes to go, Mamaroneck takes a timeout, still trailing 1-0. The Tigers did put some pressure on in the opening minutes of the second half, but couldn’t finish.

Update: Mamaroneck falls 1-0. It’s final. They just couldn’t keep the pressure on long enough to make anything happen.

There was very little drama until Lakeland began losing players to a string of yellow cards in the final minutes, and the Hornets are heading to the bus with the Class B championship trophy after beating Maine Endwell 2-0 this morning at Dick Hoover Stadium.

“No words can describe how this feels,” said Emma Bozek, who scored the first goal of the game. “We know how many good field hockey teams are in the state of New York and we’re the best.”

It’s the fourth state title for Lakeland, which also won in 1990, 2003 and 2006, all under head coach Sharon Sarsen.

We’re still a couple of minutes away from game time. The captains are meeting right now. It’s a little cool, but nobody’s complaining because it’s a lot warmer than it should be this time of year.

Keep checking back.

Update: We’re 10 minutes in, no score, although Lakeland is gathering momentum and has a 2-0 advantage on corners.

Update: I pushed the button a second too soon. Emma Bozek just put in a rebound to make it 1-0 Hornets with 20:36 to go. The initial shot was taken by her sister Megan Bozek, who gets the assist.

Update: Bridget McGovern makes the perfect pass across the mouth of the goal to Leanne Goldblatt, who puts Lakeland in front with 5:19 to go in the first half. Maine-Endwell has a couple of corners, but no serious threats.

Update: Halftime, 2-0 Lakeland.

Update: Emma Bozek gets a yellow card, she’s out for the next five minutes. Lakeland responds by forcing a corner despite being short a player. There’s 23 minutes to go.

Update: Lakeland is patiently counting down the minutes, still 2-0 with eight minutes to play.

Update: Another yellow card for Lakeland, this time it’s Goldblatt for taking a stick over somebody’s head while making a move.

Update: Lakeland is down two players. Alex Fitzpatrick picks up a second green card, which equals a yellow. She goes off. We have 2:40 to go.

Update: Lakeland wins another state title. The final is 2-0 in a game that was a little short on drama. The dog pile is in progress.
