Update No. 10: Rye’s Brian Pickup picked up the onside kick so Rye has 2:05 to kill for its third state championship in four years. Kyle Ramahlo then broke a 21-yard run that will finish it off. He cut inside to stay inbounds at the end of the play and appeared to injure his shoulder, but he’s not coming out of the game. Ten seconds remain.

Update No. 9: Oneida just finished a long touchdown drive, with a key fourth-and-10 pass completion and an eight-yard TD pass from Kramer to Brandon Miles with 2:09 left. But Joe McCormick missed another PAT kick wide right, so Rye’s lead is four—and Oneida needs a touchdown to win. It’s 16-12, Rye, with the onside kick no doubt coming up.

Update No. 8: END OF THIRD QUARTER: RYE 16, ONEIDA 6.

Update No. 7: No further scoring, but some bizarre stuff, as Oneida’s last drive, which failed, was highlighted by an unusual alignment. The Indians offensive line lined up way off to the left, leaving QB Ryan Kramer alone in a shotgun with the center, and his receivers off to the right. The result was a series of penalties against both teams, and much confusion, and three Rye pass rushers not being blocked. The Rye fans took up a chant of “Let’s play football.” The Garnets held and have the ball now, and their defense can try and come up with some answers to that scheme if Oneida tries it again.

Update No. 6: HALFTIME SCORE: RYE 16, ONEIDA 6.

Update No. 5: Rye drove to the Oneida two, but on fourth and a foot was called for a penalty. So Kelleher came in and kicked a 24-yard field goal … which was wiped out by another penalty. So he then kicked a 29-yard field goal. With 6:34 left in the half, it’s 16-6, Rye.

Update No. 4: END OF FIRST QUARTER: RYE 13, ONEIDA 6.

Update No. 3: Rye’s Pat O’Callaghan recovered an Oneida fumble at the Oneida 42, and after a pass interference penalty against the Indians, O’Callaghan caught a bullet from Connor Eck in the back of the end zone for a 15-yard TD. The PAT hit the right upright. Rye leads 13-6 with 1:24 left in the first.

Update No. 2: The best way to react to an early touchdown is to go get one right back, and that’s what Rye did with a 56-yard drive finished off by a 28-yard touchdown run by Cole McCormack. Jack Kelleher kicked the PAT and Rye’s up 7-6 with 7:13 to go in the quarter.

Update No. 1: The game had barely begun, and Rye was on its heels. A long opening-kickoff return by Ryan Kramer (Oneida’s quarterback) set up the Indians at the Rye 28, and a pass interference penalty led to a 16-yard touchdown run by Nate Mallinder. The PAT was wide right, so with 10:11 left in the first quarter it’s 6-0, Oneida.

Pregame: Well, the good news for Rye is that it doesn’t have to play a team from the Buffalo-area, because Section 6 teams have won each of the first four of the five championship games being played here at the Carrier Dome this weekend.

A-Sweet Home (6) 35, Burnt Hills (2) 28.

C-Southwestern (6) 35, Croton-Harmon (1) 7.

D-Maple Grove (6) 55, Moriah (7) 7.

The Garnets, in search of their second consecutive state Class B championship, and third in four years, play Oneida. That game might start a few minutes late because the AA championship game ran long. It’s about 40 minutes until scheduled kickoff and the AA game is just ending now, with postgame ceremonies still to take place before Rye and Oneida can even get onto the field for warmups.

Update No. 10: Croton’s on the board with a 48-yard touchdown pass from Nick Mainiero to Joe Tralli. Tyler Dorien kicked the PAT. It’s 35-7 with 4:30 left.

Update No. 9: Put this one in the books. John Mistretta’s six-yard touchdown run just made it 35-0 with 7:51 to go.

Update No. 8: End of three quarters: Southwestern 28, Croton 0.

Update No. 7: Croton stopped Southwestern to start the half, then had its own drive stall. Southwestern then piled it on with a 77-yard drive finished off with Sopak’s three-yard touchdown run. With 1:47 left in the third, it’s 28-0, Trojans.

Update No. 6: Halftime score: Southwestern 21, Croton 0.

Update No. 5: It got worse for Croton. Joe Tralli fumbled the next kickoff and Southwestern’s John Volpe recovered inside the Croton 10. Two plays later, Sopak found Andy Lata in the end zone, and now it’s three touchdowns in 70 seconds, and the Trojans are up 21-0 with 5:26 to go in the half.

Update No. 4: This could be disastrous for Croton. On its first play after the Southwestern touchdown, Tyler Keppler had the ball stripped by Jasen Carlson and Southwestern’s Ryan Buzzetto scooped it up and ran it back 30 yards for another touchdown. That’s 14 points in 14 seconds for the Trojans, who are up 14-0 with 6:22 to go.

Update No. 3: Southwestern just went up 7-0 with 6:36 to go in the half. The Trojans have had the ball twice and have driven the length of the field both times. This drive was impressive, and it ended with quarterback Zack Sopak’s 20-yard swing pass to Levi Bursch for a touchdown. Dan Imfeld added the extra point.

Update No. 2: End of first quarter: Croton 0, Southwestern 0.

Update No 1: After Croton’s opening drive stalled at the SW 21, the enormous Southwestern offense went down the field in big chunks. But with 1:34 left in the first quarter, Dan Imfeld’s 30-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left, so it remains 0-0.

Pregame: It’s about 40 minutes until gametime at the Carrier Dome, where the Class D championship game just finished (Maple Grove beat Moriah 55-7).

We’re expecting a big turnout from Croton—especially since we saw the crowds the Tigers drew in Mahopac and Kingston the last few weeks.

Update No. 8: Jonny McGhee ran for 12 yards and then threw to Tremayne Williams, and with a facemask penalty vs. M-W, the Huguenots have a first down at the Monroe 12.

Update No. 7: New Rochelle just stopped M-W on a fourth-and-three and took over on their own 29 with five minutes to go.

Update No. 6: Monroe kicker Jamie Boyle just booted a 35-yard field goal that floated through the wind and just made it over the crossbar, and M-W has gone back on top 10-8 with 7:50 to play. New Ro greatly helped the Crusaders at the end of a good kickoff return by tacking on a pair of penalties, and setting up Monroe at the New Ro 35.

Update No. 5: New Rochelle has just gone ahead 8-7 after a 97-yard drive. Jonny McGhee heaved a 32-yard pass to the back of the end zone and Tremayne Williams went up and got it, and got his feet down for a touchdown. Then on the PAT—and we don’t know if this was a gutsy fake or a bad snap—McGhee the holder threw a two-point conversion pass to Janna Chukumerije with 11:21 to go.

Update No. 4: End of three quarters: Monroe 7, New Ro 0. The Huguenots have a bit of a drive going, finally. They’re at the Monroe 35 to start the fourth.

Update No. 3: It’s tough going, partly because of the elements, partly because of the defenses. After the first half: Monroe 7, New Ro 0.

Update No. 2: On the first play of the quarter, Trevor Officer scored on a four-yard run, and Jamie Boyle kicked the extra point, so it’s 7-0 Crusaders.

Update No. 1: This is a slugfest, 0-0 at the end of the first quarter. But Monroe-Woodbury blocked a New Ro punt and is driving, with a second-and-goal from the New Ro four to open the second quarter.
